Juss Heinsalu is an Estonian artist working between Tallinn and Halifax, Nova Scotia. His practice centers on an autonomous research-creation process that investigates the embodiment of life in clay, combining scientific hypotheses with mythological and ethnographic knowledge through a material-driven studio approach. His recent work explores meteoritic origins, petrification, and speculative mineral-based lifeforms, focusing on clay-glass and metal-ceramic compounds alongside innovative studio production methods. He holds a degree in ceramics from the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA) and earned an MFA from NSCAD University in Nova Scotia. Currently, Juss is an associate professor and leads the Craft Studies MA programme at EKA.
